It’s like a travel in time. Prepare yourself to enter the seventies in a very Christian hotel. If you book a room for 2 people, instead of one double bed, you get 2 single beds which keep separating during the night. The shower is definitely not made for tall people and is not clean. Furthermore, no need for a wake up call, drilling at 9 am in the hallway of the hotel will do the trick and you will wake up bright and early during your holiday. Electricity cords and leakage damage in the ceiling give you a true rustic Berlin vibe. Location is nice, as you’re quite close to the City Center. Overall, the location is good however all the facilities that you would expect from a hotel in 2023 are clearly lacking and staff does not really want to address your concerns.
EDIT:
By this extra comment I reply on the disappointing comments by the hotel.
First of all, by the pictures it is made entirely clear that the hotel is not a modern design hotel. However, in my opinion hanging electricity wires and leakage from the ceiling is not an issue of modern design. As is visible on the pictures the martas hotel is an old hotel, but if leakage and electricity wires are normal, please also include this in the pictures, as I did not see this indicated anywhere on your website.
I understand that some construction is needed in an old hotel. But, drilling at 9AM is not a pleasant guest experience. In my opinion you pay a hotel for a nights sleep, but as I understand by your reply this is not the case at your hotel (so please also indicate this on your website).
Furthermore, the cleaning of the rooms was lacking. Hair in the sink is not the most pleasant thing to see after a long day of travelling. But, is this also normal or how should we interpet this?
We are utmost disappointed by your childish response. We would like to discuss the matters with you on a normal level and not be pimpled at the check-in desk.
Thank you very much for reading the response.
This was a good experience in the heart of Berlin. The staff at reception and at the restaurant were very polite and as always impeccably professional. The hotel is located on a small street just next to Friedrichsstrasse station which makes it very convenient. At first I found the accommodation and restaurant prices unreasonably high, but then comparing it to neighbouring Melia and Maritim - you get a deal here. The only minus is the tiny size of the rooms and the minuscule bathrooms- you really get some bruises from hitting the wall when turning around. That’s something unpleasant indeed.
Pros:
Great location, right in the middle of the center. Super nice job from the housekeeping, it was nicely cleaned both when we checked in and on our stayover.
Lovely customer service too from reception and the restaurant.
So great location in Berlin; very nice accommodation: beautiful style; I felt a bit like in a classic cinema hotel, very nice intimate atmosphere. Pet friendly.
Very nice hotel. Old but big room, nice bathroom, it has a elevator, no AC but has a fan that works. Natural light coming I. From the window.
A very welcoming hotel. The staff is very attentive and friendly. very well located. Highly recommended.
Nice boutique hotel in Berlin Mitte area. On a street with many dining options. Their own restaurant has a lovely courtyard. Good, classic European breakfast buffet with meats, cheeses, fruit, eggs, oatmeal, bean or lentil salads, etc with plenty of coffee or tea . Unfortunately no laundry service and nearest laundromat is a mile away.
Spotlessly clean room. Only stayed a night, but great location if you are wanting to see Berlin. They offer refreshments i.e water or wine and nuts for a small fee.
